The G-E P780 is (in my opinion) the finest
consumer transistor radio made in the 1950's/early '60's. It's a heavy radio,
the case is made of a high impact durable plastic. The front and
chassis are a heavy cast metal with a chrome plated front.
The large 5" speaker with an oversized voice
coil and magnet provide a robust, clean sound with ample bass. It
rivals the sound produced by a larger wood table radio. I have
long admired this set for it's sensitivity and quality sound, it
has been my favorite listening radio when portability
is needed.
The speaker is not the only reason for it's
great sound, it also features a tuned RF stage and triple tuned
IF's. Few consumer radios have such features.
